Facts worth exploring.

Thank you to the World Bank, INSEE, and the creators and archivists of the CIA World Factbook. Their work supplies the statistics behind the comparisons. The preserved Factbook JSON archive ships with its CC0 notice.

The atlas and source notes explain reference years, derived figures, missing data, and territorial exceptions. Source attribution does not imply endorsement of Orbino.

Maps, flags, and typography.

These assets are served locally during play. Flag-colour counts include AI-assisted editorial review and are not an independent human or official audit.

The software underneath.

Orbino is built with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and Hotwire's Turbo and Stimulus. Propshaft, importmap, Puma, and the wider open-source community make a small, responsive application possible.

Kamal supports deployment, and GlitchTip supports error monitoring. Thanks to everyone who maintains these tools.

A human project with AI assistance.

AI tools assisted with development and data review. The choices and limitations are documented in the atlas. Gameplay uses fixed rules and a frozen dataset; no AI judges your moves.
